Juneteenth, also known as Jubilee Day, Freedom Day and Emancipation Day, has long been celebrated in communities across Colorado and commemorates June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, and announced the end of the Civil War and declared that more than 250,000 enslaved Black people were free. Despite the Emancipation Proclamation having been issued by President Lincoln on January 1, 1863, many enslavers continued to hold enslaved people captive.

US Small Business Administration Awards Colorado Disaster Designation for Glenwood Springs Mudslide

DENVER, CO – The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) announced it has awarded a disaster declaration in Garfield, Eagle, Mesa, Pitkin, Rio Blanco, and Routt counties as a result of flooding, mudslides, rockslides and associated closures of Glenwood Canyon. Businesses in these counties are eligible to apply for loans through the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program to offset the cost of this disaster on their business.
